3.In this poem The Lamentation of the old Pensioner the poet
W.B. Yeats laments over his present ugly, old, retired and neglected condition.
The poet presents the reminiscence of his romantic, young life which becomes
more painful when he looks at his present condition and contrasts his time of
youth with his state in the old age.
Now, the poet has become old. He remembers his romantic and
happy young life and expresses his grief in the retired old age. He is sitting
under the broken tree to save himself from the rain. He remembers his past days
when he used to stay near the fire with his friends.
